BOOK REVIEW

By: Priscilla Plummer

I so appreciate Don Pinnock and Colin Bell for having the vision for this book and driving it forward and all the experts across who work to protect elephants and generously contributed to it. Substantial in information with many moving photographs and soul stirring quotes, I open it regularly, taking it in bit by bit.

While the focus is on elephants, this book also provides valuable insight into some of the key issues facing wildlife and wild spaces in Africa.  While rich in content, the paperback version is also like a coffee table book due to its many stunning photos. I recommend the print version as it provides the option to do a deep read or to sit with photos and quotes. It is also available in a Kindle edition.

It’s one of my favorite books and I delve into it frequently.

Animals are more ancient, more complex and in many ways more sophisticated than us. They are more perfect because they remain within Nature’s fearful symmetry just as Nature intended. They should be respected and revered, but perhaps none more so than the elephant, the world’s most emotionally human land mammal.’ ~ Dame Daphne Sheldrick
