Zimbabwe – Weather

Harare, Zimbabwe

Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

In general, the climate is similar to that of Southern California, rarely going over 90 F or under 45 F. The winter (May – Sept) is the most popular time to visit because of the pleasant weather and game viewing opportunities, however, the best balance occurs between July and September. The rainy season (Nov – March) is somewhat less pleasant but travel is still possible with rainfall contained to mornings or evenings.

Harare and the Highlands have cooler temperatures than those found in Victoria Falls, Hwange, Kariba and the Bulawayo area. Temperatures can be downright cold in Hwange in the early morning and evenings from June to August (be sure to bring adequate warm clothing), especially if one is going out on games drive in open vehicles. In summer, temperatures can be very hot in the Bulawayo, Kariba and lower Zambezi areas.
